STEFAN SÖLVI PÉTURSSON :   KEEPING THE TRADITION ALIVE

LEAD Technologies Inc. V1.01

Stefan Sölvi Pétursson wasn't born when the legendary Jon Pall Sigmarsson won his first. World Strongest Man title, back in 1984.   And he was a mere 4 years old when Iceland's most popular figure won an historic 4 th title, in 1990.   But he was old enough to realize the legacy of strength that Iceland's forefathers had left to Icelanders, when he later witnessed the rise to greatness of Magnus Ver Magnusson, his nowadays mentor, as the great Magnus Ver went on to become the second strongman only to win 4 world Strongest Man titles.

Says Stefan Sölvi : "I was maybe 4 or 5 years old when I saw a strength exhibition with Jon Pall and Magnus Ver. I still remember how amazed I was seeing them performing their demonstration of strength.   I then began watching on TV when they won World's Strongest Man competitions.   So, I knew very soon that I wanted to be strong.   In the summer time in my childhood I went to my grandfather's farm in the countryside to work.   And when I was playing I often tried to lift heavy things and imitate Jon Pall and Magnus Ver. That is where I built a good foundation to my strength".

So the Viking gods gave him strength.   At 22, standing 1 m 94 (6' 4") tall at a bodyweight of 150 kg (330 lbs), the very young Stefan Sölvi Pétursson, is starting to walk in Jon Pall's and Magnus Ver's footsteps.   In 2008, his deadlift went past the 370 kg (815 lbs) and in May of this year he became Iceland's Strongest Man.   Going back almost a quarter of a century, that is how it started for Jon Pall Sigmarsson : a 370 kg deadlift, the European deadlift record in 1984, and winning his first Iceland's Strongest Man the year after.

As he will enter FORTISSIMUS 2008, Stefan Sölvi Pétursson can proudly say that he has joined one select club: The Boys from Iceland.   The membership is quite remarkable: Jon Pall Sigmarsson, Magnus Ver Magnusson, Hjalti Arnasson amongst the notables.   They all rose to fame by first winning Iceland's Strongest Man and they are all remembered   as sons from the land of ice and fire.
