LOUIS-PHILIPPE JEAN : HEART OF A LION

He has what it take to become Canada's strongest man of his generation. And maybe more. Because Louis-Philippe Jean has a great genetic background. Michel, his father, is no weakling at 330 lbs (150 kg). His grandfather, Philippe, was said to be the strongest man in Eastern Quebec. Yet, Louis-Philippe insists on saying that part of his strength comes from his mother's side, the Morneau's. Nothing less.

Louis-Philippe Jean was born in the remote area of Port-Cartier, some 800 km east from Quebec city, on August 15, 1984 (the same day as Napoleon). He started the iron game at high school in 2002. In three years he put on some 60 lbs of muscle, from 250 lbs (114 kg) to 310 lbs (141 kg). First time out at the Provincial Strongman show in Mont-Joli he made 19 th place out of 29 competitors. He admitted that he cried. That was back in 2004. One year later he was 7 th . And in 2006, after a full season with the Quebec Strongman cup, he ended up 4 th . Moving to 2007, he made his point: runner-up at the Halifax Strongman Open, third place at the Provincial close to Dominic Filiou and Hugo Girard, fourth at Canada's Strongest Man and, finally, winner of the Quebec Strongest Cup.

Louis-Philippe Jean remembers that nothing comes easy in life. Just to mention that, back in 2005, he paid 1750$ to fly from Sept-Iles to Rouyn, in Abitibi, then driving to Amos, only to finish 7 th in a strongman competition getting 250$ for his «work». In 2006, he drove all the way from Port-Cartier to Macamic, Abitibi, and back, a 3100 km bike, to compete in a local competition. A 9 th place that earned him 100$. He did not forget. Said he: «I felt my home town to make it big one day. I want to come back and be able to say to my folks that I have accomplished something worthwhile. I know that I have the tools to do it. And in some way, I would like to become a role-model.»

Louis-Philippe Jean has gone one step further. He knows his weak spots and recognizes that he has made some mistakes. And he is aware that he needs a lot of dedication and self-discipline to make it to the top. As Dominic Filiou, 2007 Canada's Strongest Man puts it: Louis-Philippe Jean is Canada's next strongman sensation.»

Three years ago, Louis-Philippe Jean was a no name in a line up of local strongmen. On June 28 and 29, 2008, he will fight the biggest names in the game at FORTISSIMUS. And he will show the world that he has the heart of a lion.
